One of the biggest, if not the biggest, parts of nailing a Spider-Man game is focused on the swinging aspect of the game. Insomniac Games nailed the feeling of being Spider-Man in a dense city, but how did they do it?
Well, in the latest YouTube video showcasing Spider-Man, the developers from Insomniac gave little details on how they created a dynamic swinging mechanic for players.
Check out the new video down below:
The game is filled with swan dives, acrobatic flips and tricks, alongside some webzipping to help get to places quicker. The whole string of movements will effect how fast Spider-Man can move; run on walls and turn a corner, jump off a skyscraper and swing the minute you’re gonna hit the ground, or just combo all these factors when swinging, and your momentum will be soaring.
They also mentioned that they had to have the web dynamically attach to the buildings, so a physic system was built to help Spider-Man act as a pendulum. Another neat little feature they added was the fire escapes. Anyone who has been in or seen New York City knows that there are plenty of fire escapes on buildings. They couldn’t leave them out so instead they implemented them so that Spider-Man can free run across them or zip through them in a snazzy animation.
The upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man game is looking stunning and with reviews already out, the hype for the game is through the roof. Only a day left before the game actually launches.
