Speaking at the Develop conference, Sony's Senior Account Manager for Developer Relations Agostino Simonetta outlined the Four Pillars of Self Publishing for the Playstation 4. Simonetta emphasizes that Sony is committed to making the process as easy as possible and to provide developers the assistance that they need.
The first Pillar that will direct Sony's relationship with developers is Every Developer Is a Publisher. Sony will be treating all developers equally, big and small, and indies in particular can expect Sony to provide them assistance in marketing their games. All devs will also get to control their games' release dates.
The second Pillar, Equality of Opportunity, is an extension of the first. Sony promises a level playing field for all game creators, such that they will all get the same level of business support irregardless of how many titles they make or how much revenue they earn.
The third Pillar, Personal Relationship, relates to how Sony will be interacting with their developers. Sony will have an open door policy for developers, so that they can talk to Sony's marketing divisions directly at no extra cost.
For the final Pillar, Sony promises No Hurdles, Just Games. Simply put, Simonetta promises full commitment for developers from Sony, to make it as easy for indies to work with them as possible.
Previously in the conference, Sony's Neil Brown announced PS4 owners will be able to play their digital library from any console.
Sony has taken an interesting approach marketing their upcoming console, going to all these events to talk directly with game developers. This has already netted them some great indie titles, such as the Witness, but with these actions the number of indies on the system may soon explode.
