Most fans of the Killzone franchise don’t come running to Sony’s first-person shooter for its rich narrative, but that just might change with the PlayStation 4 launch title Shadow Fall. Gone are series staples Sev and Rico, which opens up plenty of possibilities for this franchise to take on a whole new tone. This now-colorful world has a massive conflict that you’ll be right at the center of, and this latest story teaser shows just a bit of what you can expect from the storyline of Guerilla Games’ next project.
There are no longer two planets holding the Helghast and Vektans apart; in Shadow Fall, both races live on the same world. Sadly, that doesn’t mean that they share similar interests and spend long hours skipping through fields of Helghan daisies. Even with 30 years spent on a single rock together, the militant peoples are on the brink of war at the start of Shadow Fall. A wall has been built between them in order to stall any sort of military action, but with trust at a low point, even the barrier isn’t enough to hold either side back. One side is about to break, and it’s up to you as a Shadow Marshal to perform the missions that make sure the balance remains tipped in favor of the Vektans.
If you have no interest in the new narrative the game is going for, a gameplay trailer was recently released that shows off a bit of the action you can expect in the final product. Look for it on the PlayStation 4 at launch.
