Saints Row 4 is set to be released this August but Volition are already looking beyond with game design director Scott Phillips telling GameReactor that future entries in the series could "continue in a different direction."
Phillips commented, "We're definitely considering Saints Row 4 [to be] sort of the end of that saga of this character and the Saints as they are. So if there's any more future Saints Rows – which you know we always hope there will be, we hope there's fans for future games like that – they will probably continue in a different direction."
Saints Row originally launched as a rival to Grand Theft Auto but as the series went on it became more and more diversified from the competition. Saints Row 4 features alien anal probes (for which it was refused classification in Australia), Keith David as Keith David and just about everything else.
In fact, Volition producer Jim Boone has said they're not concerned by the fact they're launching so close to Grand Theft Auto 5 – which comes out on September 17th – due to the differences between the games.
Saints Row 4 releases on August 20th in North America and on August 23rd in Europe. Australians will be required to pick up the 'low violence' version.
