The Elder Scrolls Online is set to release in the Spring of 2014. While excitement for the game was somewhat small following its announcement, the title has garnered a following that are – to some degree – ravenously anticipating the game's release. It goes without saying that we here at Gameranx are part of that sect.
At any rate, Youtube user Little Raven Gamer has been working on a series of videos that details the latest and greatest in The Elder Scrolls Online news. We've provided the latest in this series below, which details a number of different things pertinent to the game and its development. One of the most interesting facets of this production is information detailing how dungeon-crawling will work in-game.
According to Little Raven, players in The Elder Scrolls Online will be able to fill different roles throughout the course of a dungeon run. While many MMORPGs force players into specific roles – be it through a matchmaking system or simple expectations – ESO will offer players the opportunity to engage in different aspects of the game without consequence. While this sounds amazing on paper, its implementation might be hard to comprehend, as gamers have become so accustomed to character archetypes; this is especially noted in the Player vs Environment side of MMO gaming.
With changes like this in the works, the landscape of MMO gaming could change dramatically. Is the age of players being locked down to certain roles coming to a close? We'll find out when The Elder Scrolls Online releases early next year.
