Batman: Arkham Origins will present fans of the series with a younger, greener Dark Knight than they’ve ever really seen before. While Batman is often calm, cool, and collected during interrogations and brutal brawls, this prequel is said to show a side of the comic-book protagonist that might just lead to a few costly mistakes.
Speaking with GameReactor, creative director Eric Holmes discussed how Bruce Wayne's headspace is quite different in Arkham Origins, as his inexperience often leads to a few accidental acts of violence.
"Sometimes we'll show him try something, and he'll screw it up," Holmes explained. "But when he screws it up, he screws it up in a cool way. For example, one interrogation we have in the game, when he's interrogating someone and trying to get this information out of them – he goes too far and chokes the guy out. The next time he interrogates someone he doesn't push it that far."
This doesn’t mean you’ll be running into trash cans and missing well-timed punches. The majority of Batman’s problems will be represented in the game’s narrative.
"He's not tripping over his gadgets, trying to use a gadget and dropping it on the floor. He's not firing his grappling gun and it explodes,” he continued.
It might not be Rockstready at the helm of this 2013 blockbuster, but there’s plenty of interesting information out there that makes Batman: Arkham Origins sound like a holiday game to watch. Just make sure you prepare yourself for a Batman who’s not always in control.
