At the Japan Expo event held in Paris earlier this week Square Enix revealed a new trailer for Final Fantasy: Lightning Returns XIII which provides new details on the game's story.
It seems Lightning has been transformed into a reaper of sorts; tasked with saving as many people as possible before the world ends. It has been previously revealed that she has just seven days to do so but by perfroming various tasks Lightning can extend the deadline to 13 days.
Lightning says she was given her new role by God. It's not clear whether this God is somehow related to Etro, the Goddess of time and death who has featured prominently in the other games of the Lightning trilogy.
We also see Noel Kreiss, one of the main characters of Final Fantasy XIII-2 – who fought alongside Lightning's sister Serah – battle against her.
The game is set to be released on February 11th 2014 in North America and three days later on February 14th in Europe on PS3 and Xbox 360. Pre-orders will gain you access to Cloud's outfit and buster sword from Final Fantasy VII.
