In a video from Rev3Games, Venice and Shoshone gameplay – the newest civilizations in the Civilization 5: Brave New World expansion – shows off exactly how they will operate.
Unlike any civilization in Civilization 5, Venice cannot create or gain additional settlers to settle cities nor annex other cities. To expand their city beyond their capital, Venice can acquire a Merchant of Venice great person. Like the great Merchant, the Merchant of Venice can expend itself for trade missions to earn a large sum of gold.
With the Merchant of Venice, players can purchase city states much like Austria. When you purchase the city state they become a puppet state, but they will still allow players to both purchase units and buildings. Since gold acts a core function for Venice, they will also gain double the amount of gold from trade routes that normal civilizations receive. Venice can also build a unique Great Galleass – a more powerful ship unit.
For the Shoshone, they cater towards rapid expansion. Upon immediately settling cities, their borders capture a wide portion of land. To explore the lands effectively, their unique scout – The Pathfinder – almost matches the strength of a warrior and can also choose the benefit of ruins once they discover one. They Shoshone also gains a unique Calvary unit called the Comanche Riders.
The Civilization 5: Brave New World expansion will release on July 9th for $29.99.
