Insomniac Games has been branching out quite a bit as of late. After a long stretch of development on Sony platforms, the studio launched its first multiplatform game, Fuse, on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Sure, it wasn’t exactly the most critically acclaimed game of 2013, but it was an interesting start to a new chapter in the Insomniac book. The next big step will be Sunset Overdrive, an Xbox One exclusive that will be taking full advantage of Microsoft’s all-powerful Cloud.
"Some of the hardcore data collection, correlation, and translation that we expect to do is difficult and takes a lot of horsepower, and that is one aspect of the cloud that is attractive to us," Insomniac head Ted Price told Game Informer. "When people say 'cloud,' it's one of those broad terms that mean many things. How we use the cloud depends on the genre, depends on the audience, and it depends on the state of the hardware behind the cloud.”
The online capabilities of the Xbox One are one of the main reasons Insomniac chose to just develop on a single platform. However, that doesn’t mean an internet connection will be required to enjoy the game.
"Our intent is that you will be able to play the single-player without an online connection," he continued. "The game will be updated with content we expect that all players will want. You won't be able to access that without an online connect."
Things might change before the actual release of Sunset Overdrive, but for now, the message sounds solid.
