Many Nintendo fans – regardless of the situation – hope for returns to franchises like F-Zero, and most recently, Luigi's Mansion. In a recent interview with Kosuke Yabuki, direct of Mario Kart 8, Gamekult.com asked about Mario Kart 8 and the F-Zero like gravity racing.
With much more powerful hardware with the Wii U than the 3DS, the Mario Kart team could go further with their visions. The new hardware allowed them to achieve grander ideas to add things like gravity racing. Hideki Konno, producer at the studio, explained Nintendo's plan to create at least one Mario Kart for every console but still hopes that people will also see an F-Zero sometime soon.
With both the PS4 and Xbox One, Sony and Microsoft implemented a built in software feature that allows players to record video or even stream live gameplay. In Mario Kart 8, Konno explained that players don't want to see an entire match. Instead, with Mario Kart TV, it will create a highlight reel of the best moments in a race in a shorter video.
The Mario Kart franchise continues to evolve through the Wii U hardware itself and the fan desire for Nintendo to try new things. Kart customization in Mario Kart 8 will follow Mario Kart 7's tire, glider and body options, but for Nintendo to expand these options, they would unfortunately take people away from the designs of tracks. In the future if they can expand the team, then maybe they can offer more customization options that people loved in Mario Kart 7.
Mario Kart 8 will release sometime next year on the Wii U.
