Television will be one of the main pillars of the Xbox One’s entertainment offerings. It was highly discussed during the next-generation console’s debut back in late May, and will continue its time in the spotlight in order to grab the attention of the more casual consumer. To make the whole functionality a bit more real, Microsoft today announced a new partnership with Time Warner Cable for Xbox 360. This "landmark" deal will continue to make the Xbox brand seem like the best choice for a spot as the main multimedia box in the consumer’s home, brining 300 live TV channels to Xbox 360 later this summer.
Similar to the existing offer for Verizon FiOS subscribers, Microsoft’s new deal with Time Warner will allow Xbox Live Gold members to enjoy a slew of live-TV options through their Xbox 360 consoles. Kinect functionality will be available for users more interested in gesturing or talking their way from channel to channel, and yes, live-streaming will only be available to Xbox Live customers living in the U.S. Sorry, everybody else.
Just what will you be able to watch on your Xbox? Included in the functionality will be AMC, BBC World News, Bravo, Cartoon Network, CNN, Comedy Central, Food Network, HGTV, and many more. This style of TV streaming will continue to work through a separate application, which is not the case for the Xbox One. When you just so happen to buy the console this November, the feed will be directly though the system via HDMI.
