Over Twitter this morning, PopCap announced over the official Plants vs. Zombies account that Plant vs. Zombies 2 will no longer meet its July 18th release. The delay means that the game will release sometime later this summer. PopCap did not specify a date.
Plants vs. Zombies 2, originally slated for a July 18th release, will now be released later in the summer. Stay tuned for more details.

In a response to a follower, PopCap explained that the delay came because they want to reach the highest quality before the release.

The game will release first on iOS products but that still won't stop the delay from happening.
EA announced PopCap's new third-person shooter Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare at this year's E3 press conference. It proves very likely that they delay came from the studio working on two games simultaneously, especially a game involving the complexity of a third-person shooter.
