The latest entry in the Dragon Age series is coming. While it might not be BioWare’s biggest RPG franchise, these high-fantasy titles are some of the deepest, most content-rich games on the market. Dragon Age 2 failed to light the world on fire when it launched with a bit more of a linear focus, but Inquisition is dropping the “3” and taking all the time it needs to be a true, next-generation project. We’ve been waiting a long time to see actual gameplay running on Frostbite 3, and thanks to a developer blog posted on the official BioWare website, we have a screenshot to examine.
Matt Komsthoeft, a programmer at the studio, has officially moved to work with the Dragon Age team. His personal account of time spent at the major studio can be found here, but the one thing we want to pick out is the above image that was included in the post. This is the new look for Inquisition, and yes, it’s running on Frostbite 3.
"We are trailblazing with an engine that has never been used to make an RPG before yet already has a number of beautiful games using it,” Komstheeft said.
We’ve heard about the vast open world and almost limitless player choice that will come with this next-generation RPG, but it’s nice to actually see an image coming directly from the game. However, we’re still quite a long way away from the release date on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, as Dragon Age: Inquisition will launch holiday 2014.
