Ellen Page, the actress who will act as the voice and face for the protagonist in the upcoming Beyond: Two Souls, isn’t exactly happy with Naughty Dog at the moment. During a recent AMA on Reddit, Page was asked her thoughts on the character Ellie from The Last of Us, who bears a striking resemblance to the Canadian star. Her response seemed to show a bit of bad feelings toward Naughty Dog, who never contacted Page about using her likeness.
"I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a videogame called Beyond: Two Souls, so it was not appreciated,” she said.
The Last of Us has been doing wonderfully in terms of critical reception, and it’s likely that this whole issue would blow over in just a couple of days. Really, the storied developer had no real need to respond to Page. However, Naughty Dog decided to clear the air and speak directly to the actress through its official Twitter account.
“Wow! The reaction to Ellen Page’s AMA was overblown,” the post reads. “After the announce trailer there WAS initial confusion leading us to revise Ellie’s look.”
Not exactly the feud-starting Tweet you expected, huh? Naughty Dog isn’t looking to start a fight or change up history. The original Ellie was changed before The Last of Us shipped on the PlayStation 3, and as the Tweet reads, there isn’t much need to look deeply into what Page wrote on Reddit. Hopefully, this will put the conversation to bed.
