Last week Amazon sent a series of emails which suggested that the Xbox One will be released on November 27th; however, Microsoft has quashed the speculation saying that the date is a placeholder.
In a statement to IGN a Microsoft representative commented "We have not informed our retail partners about a specific launch date for the Xbox One. It is commonplace for retailers to put placeholders and prices into our system until they are given a specific date and price. We are excited to release the Xbox One in November 2013."
November 27th seemed like a viable date given that the biggest sale in the US each year, Black Friday, will take place two days later. In addition, the Xbox 360 launched two days before Black Friday in 2005.
According to European retailers the PS4 is set to be releaed on November 13th but Sony has neither confirmed nor denied that particular rumour.
Most of the major releases this year; including titles like FIFA 14, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts are set to be released weeks before November 27th and it's likely Microsoft would not want to leave such a big gap in between those major launches and the release of their console.
Pre-orders of the PS4 and the Xbox One have helped Amazon smash their pre-order records with up to 2,500 consoles being booked per minute.
