All of the recent Metal Gear Solid games had some sort of obscure, central theme. Metal Gear Solid had “Gene”, Metal Gear Solid 2 had “Meme”, Metal Gear Solid 3 had “Scene”.
The upcoming fifth entry into the main Metal Gear Solid series, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will have three of those. One will be “Race”, the other “Revenge”, while the third central theme will be “Loss”, referring of course back to the fifth game’s subtitle The Phantom Pain.
All characters that Big Boss encounters in Metal Gear Solid 5 will have lost something, and that loss will be defining who they are, as Sean Eyestone, the host of Kojima Productions Studio’s own podcast, Alert explained on the fourth episode of the podcast. Eyestone explained that with that fact in mind, the trailers could be read differently.
Everybody has lost something. Skull Face, well, obviously what he lost. Quiet lacks a voice. Big Boss starts to resemble Darth Vader. Lots of little details that can be picked up there along the way.
