UPDATE:
Various reports are indicating that both Xbox Live and Xbox.com are back online. Some users are still having slight issues, but it should be resolved before too long.
Orignal Story:
We just received some very positive news about the future of the Xbox One. All the talk of DRM, 24-hour check-ins, and other not-very-user-friendly services that we’ve been hearing about since May have been removed from Microsoft’s next-generation console, painting a much prettier picture for the future of console producer. However, we now have an issue that’s affecting the present. As of this writing, both Xbox Live and Xbox.com are offline, with no word from Microsoft on what the cause is.
There was no maintenance planned for today, so whatever is keeping players from connecting to their Xbox 360s hasn’t been discovered quite yet. It could just be a simple issue that the company will address within the hour, but the timing of the problem seems a bit odd. There were a few people fighting for the DRM policies that Microsoft just removed, and while it would be crazy for these folks to stage some sort of attack on the service, it is possible. Some people just like to watch the virtual world burn.
We have run into an issue with the Xbox Live service, and are currently investigating. Stay tuned for status updates. ^PS
