Many expected new entries in the Far Cry or Prince of Persia franchises to be announced at E3; some were even holding out hope for a new Beyond Good & Evil, with no new entries in these series being revealed what are Ubisoft doing them?
Speaking to Eurogamer Ubisoft Europe boss Alain Corre seemed to suggest Far Cry 4 will be on the way before too long commenting "We haven't announced anything yet [about Far Cry]. We're thinking of the future of this brand. We don't know yet when it will emerge. Again, it's cooking, something is cooking!"
Corre added that Far Cry 4 would be released in less time than it's taken the next (unannounced) Prince of Persia game to be launched, "We try to put the fire a bit stronger," he said.
Far Cry 3, released last year, sold six million copies while spin-off Blood Dragon is also believed to have performed well so we should expect to see more of Far Cry before too long.
In relation to Prince of Persia Corre comments "All our franchises are always in gestation. We are iterating. We are thinking about what can be done. But we can't bring all the game and all the franchies every year. We have a lot on the show floor already this year.
"It will happen when we feel it is ready, when the creators have brought something interesting. That's the case for all our franchises. They're cooking. Some are cooking longer than others, but they're cooking."
While all Ubisoft franchies may be cooking some are released more frequently than others. Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft's CEO, recently revealed that three Assassin's Creed games are in active development.
Speaking about one of Ubisoft's longest absent series, Beyond Good & Evil, Guillemot told VentureBeat that fans read too much into the company's decision to post Pey'j on their Facebook page recently saying he's a "classic character" and "wasn't meant to be a tease".
Guillemot added that "It was just part of our promotion in the run-up to E3, homaging some of the characters from our past. I think that was maybe misinterpreted. I think the first game was exceptional, and people remember the experience they had, so they would like to see it again.
"We had a period where we had a demo that went out before it was quite ready, so everybody saw something that appealed to them. That's why I think they keep expecting something. But I can't say much more than that."
Guillemot is presumably referring to the UbiDays trailer from 2008; nothing has been heard concerning Beyond Good & Evil 2 since.
