State of Decay, the new zombie survival game from Undead Labs, has broken all sorts of records since its launch earlier this month. According to the Xbox news team on the official Xbox website, State of Decay is the “fastest selling original game on XBLA”.
The text accompanying that headline doesn't actually clarify what “original” means here, but given all of the previous comparisons with Minecraft – i.e. that State of Decay had the second highest sales figures two days after launch, with Minecraft XBLA nabbing the top spot – I'd say it means “available on Xbox 360 first”. The game is coming to PC, but for now it's a little Xbox Live Arcade success story.
The statistics that led Microsoft to draw this conclusion? Apparently, the game sold more than half a million copies – and that's paid copies, not including the free trial – in its first week, following its release on June 5. The Xbox news team has a few quotes about the news from the founder and executive producer at Undead Labs, Jeff Strain, who says – for example – that the team is “thrilled and humbled that gamers are embracing the game”, and that more important than sales figures to them is the fact “that people who bought the game are having a great time playing it.”
Have you tried State of Decay yet? Will you wait until it launches on Steam, or jump on the XBLA bandwagon and add to those impressive sales figures?
