Microsoft promised its loyal fan base that there would be more than enough games to go around during its E3 press conference, and really, the company did well to keep its word. Big names like Halo, Titanfall, and Dead Rising all made strong impressions on the massive stage, but that doesn’t mean that every series we wanted to see return made a comeback. Although Crackdown 2 didn’t exactly blow away the gaming community back in 2010, plenty of people still want to see more of the acrobatic, open-world shooter. And according to a prominent Microsoft employee, the Xbox makers want to publish a Crackdown 3, too.
VP at Microsoft Game Studios, Phil Spencer, has had plenty to say to the media since the announcement of the Xbox One, but he’s also talking directly to fans through his Twitter account that many may not know about. When recently asked about the return of the Crackdown name, Spencer claimed that he’d like to see a sequel just like everyone else.
“Crackdown is important to me,” Spencer wrote to a fan. “Given right team and time, it’s a franchise I'd like to see return…”
Who that team is, and the exact amount of time required, is unknown at this time. A shaky development cycle and tight window to create the game was what many saw as the reason behind the less-than-stellar Crackdown 2, but it sounds as if Microsoft wants to do it right this time around. With all these other exclusives to worry about for the Xbox One's November release, we may not see a whole new set of orbs scattered across a city until 2015.
