For those who couldn't make it to E3 in Los Angeles this year, Sony has an interesting alternative, at least if all you want to see is stuff related to PlayStation and you have access to a PS3. As of last Tuesday, you can head into PlayStation Home and – for free – explore what Sony is calling the “E3 Virtual Booth”. According to a recent blog post about the feature, you'll be able to check out content from the following list:
Activision Inc.
Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.
Iron Galaxy Studios
NAMCO BANDAI
Sony Computer Entertainment
Supergiant Games
Telltale Games
Ubisoft
Zombie Studios
The booth the team has created does actually look and feel as though it could be a replica of the one in LA, with lots of monitors, people milling around (though presumably not nearly as many as have been there for real), and background noise. You can walk up to any monitor and access info on the games on display, along with screenshots that fill your screen. You can also watch trailers at the video screens.
To convince you to stay in the virtual environment for longer, Sony has also created a list of objectives that will win you rewards like an invitation to the Killzone: Mercenary beta, a 30-day trial of PlayStation Plus, and themes from Destiny and The Last of Us. You have to do things like answer trivia questions and visit the virtual “2013 SCEA E3 Theater” for half an hour to get them though, so be prepared to set aside a big chunk of time.
