Sony emphasised its commitment to indie developers at both the PS4 announcement and its conference at E3 on Monday. It didn't even have time to show off all of the indie games that are coming to the PS4 at that conference, and one of those that didn't appear on the day but is on the E3 show floor is Hohokum, which was originally announced last month. For those who can't be in LA to see the game firsthand, Sony has published a video in which one of its reps talks to the developers.
The focus, according to Richard Hogg, the artist behind Hohokum (in collaboration with Honeyslug, the studio behind Frobisher Says!), is to create “a game where you don't feel pressure, and you don't experience constant failure, and you can just relax and chill out and enjoy it.” That's the impression you get from the game from what we've seen so far, with its colourful environments and lack of direction. Hogg does say that the game has puzzles, but that it's more about discovery and that solving the puzzles will probably be a side effect of exploration.
Apparently, the game does have a story of sorts, something to do with the flying create you play as finding its place in this alien world, but the reps wouldn't elaborate. They also seemed unsure when asked about a release date, offering a tentative “2014”. What we do know is that the game will come to PS4, PS3, and Vita, and that the Vita version may well allow the player to interact with the world via touch as well as motion.
