Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will have a modern, open world setting and will feature Dracula as the main character it has been announced by Konami at the company's pre-E3 press conference.
Despite moving to a contemporary time Dracula's Castle will be back.
Dave Cox, the title's producer, revealed that enemies will have shields and armour which players will need to penetrate in order to defeat their foes. The Mercury Engine has been specially adapted for Lords of Shadow 2 and the game's world will grow organically allowing you to walk around the world without any load times.
Cox commented "When we set out in 2007 to reimagine Castlevania and do something new with it, it was a very risky proposition and we were all very nervous about it. With the Lords of Shadow universe we decided very early on that we wanted to tell the story of Dracula, but felt that Dracula had never been properly explained, and his story had never been properly told."
He explained that Lords of Shadow was about the deterioration of Gabriel Belmont's good intentions as he descended to become Dracula and that after players "really picked up on" the game's epilogue MercurySteam were convinced to carry on the story in Lords of Shadow 2."
A new camera, which can be turned 360 degrees, has been added to the game and the title's graphics will be superior to those seen in the original Lords of Shadow. Patrick Stewart is also set to return to the series.
The game is set to be released later this year for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. You can see the title's trailer below.
