Just before all the E3 insanity likely burries up in the next week, PopCap Games has released the first CG trailer for the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time. The cute-and-colorful title will be making its way to iOS July 18, and unlike its predecessor, it will be a free-to-play experience.
Not everything will be given away in this tower-defense project, though. Players will have the option of purchasing upgrades and in-game items from your friend and mine, Crazy Dave, if they wish. New plants that will give you the edge over the larger hoards of zombies can be found here, but the "vast majority" of Plants vs. Zombies 2 will be absolutely free. If a player never spends a single dollar in the game, he or she will still be able to reach the ending without too much difficulty.
"We're confident that players will see the love and attention we've put into this game," said senior producer Allen Murray in a press release today. "We've created wild new ways to experience the plants and zombies you know and love as well as packing the game with tons of completely new content, and we're still hard at work coming up with even more cool stuff that will keep Plants vs. Zombies 2 fresh and evolving in the months and years following launch."
If you have a fondness for the first game, you’ll likely feel giddy after watching the trailer. Crazy Dave seems to be recognized as some sort of hero thanks to his past efforts, which spurs him to do even crazier things. You know, like travel in time. Hopefully, the game looks a little like this “Grass Effect” image that was released last week during one of his adventures.
