GTA 5 Graphics and HUD Details Emerge from Live Demo

May 29, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Grand Theft Auto 5 runs smoothly at 30 FPS.

New details on the massively anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5 have been revealed following a live demo of the game witnessed by a Reddit user who recently held an AMA (ask me anything) session on the site.

It seems the user in question was not permitted to reveal the information by Rockstar as he has deleted his replies and account on Reddit. Nevertheless, GamingBolt has managed to save the information the user revealed.

Gore in Grand Theft Auto 5 will be on a similar level to that witnessed in GTA 4 and while it's not clear how bullet and other wounds will work we previously reported that the three main characters in the game will feature permanent scarring as well as other injuries.

Asked about the biggest difference between GTA 4 and GTA 5 the user commented "GTA V has this magical thing called colours. It looked better than IV, definitely, but it wasn't trailer-level. I'm quite sure I've noticed aliasing on more than one occasion."

Based on the description given, another Reddit user created a mockup of the HUD which you can see below.

With regard to combat in the game the user commented that "Nothing particular stood out in that respect." However, the aiming mechanism is said to be somewhere between that of Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption while enemies take damage in traditional GTA fasion meaning you'll need plenty of bullets to take them down.

According to the user there were "no hiccups" with regard to the frame rate of the title which was shown running on a debug PS3 at 30 frames per second. The user adds that "water was surely the best looking part of the game." It seems Rockstar has invested in fish AI as they swim away from players as they approach.

It seems water will play a pretty big role in the game with screenshots showing deep sea diving and even a submarine.

The radar system in the game has been overhauled becoming "slightly 3D and [it] rotates with you [which] will make driving a little easier, it looked kind of weird being rectangular instead of circular, but by the end of the presentation it didn't bother me, so I doubt it'll be a big deal."

Grand Theft Auto 5 is set to be released on PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 17th and pre-orders come with a special blimp.
