The vocal group isn’t always the larger one. Although the overriding feeling on the Xbox One seems to be negative at this point, the pre-order numbers for both of the next-gen consoles don’t exactly represent the Twitter response we’ve been witnessing. According to retail sources close to MCV, the Xbox One currently has more willing buyers than the PlayStation 4 at many major retailers.
That’s pretty shocking, but things only get crazier the deeper you dig. In the 24 hours after Microsoft took to the stage and went live on both Spike TV and internet streams, the Xbox One surpassed the PS4’s pre-order numbers. If you remember, Sony made its next-gen plans known all the way back in February with what seemed like a significant amount of good will.
However, don’t take this as a complete Sony loss. Although the Xbox One has a comfortable lead, the same sources also confirmed that there was a spike in PS4 pre-orders right after the Microsoft event, which shows that many were, in fact, disappointed with the presentation. It’s likely that there was just a sizable group of people who wanted to hear both sides of the next-generation story (like logical consumers) before deciding to throw that big chunk of change down.
No matter who wins, both parties are doing their best to make it known to the fans that their voice is being heard. Sony has responded to the recent PS4 No DRM campaign that’s taken Twitter by storm, while Microsoft representatives have confirmed that yes, the company is listening to feedback.
