IO Interactive were developing entries in the Hitman and Kane & Lynch series for PSP and Nintendo DS the LinkedIn profile of Jesper Donnis, a former game designer at the developer, has revealed.
Hitman: Tactics and Kane & Lynch Tactics, which were never announced by Eidos or Square Enix, were in development at the studio in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Both titles were cancelled for unspecified reasons.
Given the 'Tactics' addition to the games it seems likely that they would have quite strategic in nature, possibly even in the RTS genre.
Hitman Absolution, the latest entry in the series, was released in November of last year while the next entry in the series is expected for either this year or next though it has yet to be officially revealed. Absolution has sold 3.6 million copies.
According to IO Interactive's website the studio is currently developing an "unannounced 3rd person game with strong cooperative multiplayer elements".
With E3 just around the corner its likely we'll see either the next Hitman or this new co-op title, perhaps even both. It's likely the games in question will be released on next-gen platforms although portable owners may not be left out entirely amid rumours that Sony has made remote play support for PS4 titles on Vita compulsory.
