Microsoft Studios corporate vice-president Phil Spencer has told Official Xbox Magazine that "if all you want is gaming you'll still pick us".
Despite the Xbox One's focus on entertainment and services as well as concerns over the system's privacy protections and used-games stance Spencer says gamers have plenty to be excited for on Xbox One.
"Our third parties have been pretty eager to partner with us and I think you'll see some really special and unique things. We believe that if all you want is gaming, you'll still pick us, at the end of the day."
Spencer's comments were made before the Xbox One's announcement though they have only been transcribed now.
"The super core guys, they will buy everything," he continued. "They will buy all devices but most people really only do buy one device, and if you're going to think about what that one device is, we believe an all-in-one system that does the best games and TV and entertainment will be something that's really unique."
Spencer added that when Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 in 2005 "we didn't have a single music video, we didn't have any entertainment, and now we're seeing half our usage gloablly from entertainment apps. And so we think the story will evolve and contiue to get better over time."
Last week Yusuf Mehdi of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business revealed that the company expects sales of next generation consoles to hit 400 million. However, Mehdi added that the general entertainment capabilities of the Xbox One and the PS4 could see as many as one billion units sold.
