It seems like months ago when we all learned that EA would be the new company in control of all the Star Wars video games. It was a massive move by the publisher that’s sure to produce dozens of space-themed games set in one of the most popular fictions ever conceived, but really, all the world wants is a new Battlefront game. Maybe that’s simplifying the situation just a bit. However, according to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, the prospect of bringing new Battlefront games to the hungry public is exciting.
This news (via GameSpot) was gathered when Jorgensen spoke during the Stifel 2013 Technology Conference. Really, all the man had to do was mumble the name of the game to get millions of fans jumping out of their seats.
"The opportunity to do a new Battlefront, for example, which is one of the very popular Star Wars games, or some of the other traditional games that were made, is very exciting,” he said.
Since the game was supposedly 99 percent complete before it was canned, it’s possible that someone like DICE could just clean up the work and release what’s been developed. However, with these new Star Wars games being planned around, but not based on, the new movies, it’s likely that a new studio would just use these two years to start from scratch.
"These aren't movie games, per se; these are stand-alone games," Jorgensen said. "But obviously they would come out near the movies and be able to tailgate off of some of the buzz that will be created around the new Star Wars movies."
I know we all want a Battlefront 3 tomorrow, but since good things come to those who wait, let’s all cool down and prepare for the sequel down the road.
