There’s no doubt that Metal Gear Survive has been subject to lots of controversy since its first reveal. The community was split between the ethicality of reviving Hideo Kojima’s series under a generic ‘survival’ game, while the other half accepted Konami’s choice, playing it for the good mechanics they saw that the fox engine brought to the genre. In the battle of economics, it seems that the latter lost, however.
According to VGChartz Global Weekly Chart for the week ending February 24, 2018, Metal Gear Survive sold 84,551 units on the PlayStation 4 compared to 19,100 units sold on the Xbox One.
Breaking down the sales by region, the game sold best in the US with 31,286 units sold (30%), compared to 30,309 units sold in Japan (29%) and 28,578 units in Europe (28%). Looking more closely at Europe, the game sold an estimated 6,173 units in the UK, 4,352 units in Germany, and 4,991 units in France.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any statistics for PC, so the number could, in fact, be higher than previously stated.
Metal Gear Survive released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on February 20 in North America, February 21 in Europe and February 22 in Europe
