ZombiU was a bit of a surprise last year on the Wii U. Formerly known as Killer Freaks from Outer Space, this Ubisoft horror title went through a bizarre development cycle before landing on Nintendo’s latest console, and in most cases, that’s a sign that there's some sort of issue. However, the final product impressed most reviewers with its sinister tone and welcomed challenge, and according to one of the developers at Ubisoft Montpellier, the next entry in the new franchise is currently in the works.
As you’d expect, the bright minds over at Ubisoft receive dozens of questions each and every day about games that haven’t even been announced yet. Vocal fans often get the “maybe you’ll hear more soon!” answer from the team, but sometimes, developers let slip a little bit more than the publisher probably appreciates. Last night, Jean-Philippe Caro, a creative director at Ubisoft Montpellier, directly answered a user’s question about the existence of a ZombiU 2. A member of NeoGaf was first to spot the message.
“Thank you for your interest in ZombiU. The team is working hard on a prototype,” Caro wrote. “It´s too soon to tell you more.”
How early is too early, though? The Wii U isn’t exactly flying off the shelves, so the sooner a sequel to one of the biggest launch titles finds its way to the market, the better. It was just last fall that the original ZombiU launched, and while Ubisoft has been annualizing games like Assassin’s Creed for years now, it’s unknown if the company has the manpower to do the same for this undead thriller.
What would you want to see from a new ZombiU game, though? Maybe a game that takes even more notes from Demon’s Souls?
