When news of Batgirl being the second DLC character in Injustice: Gods Among Us was leaked a little early, reactions from fans online were all over the place.
“Another Batman character!?”
“I don’t want a Batman clone!”
“Will she fight in a wheelchair?”
(I didn't say they were tasteful reactions..)
NetherRealm assured us that Barbara Gordon was absolutely not going to be a Batman clone. With this new gameplay trailer they’ve released of Batgirl in action, I think it’s pretty clear that she’s not.
From the gameplay trailer, it looks as if Batgirl has several teleports at her disposal. Her ability to close in on opponents seems much better than Batman’s, and (though I can’t be certain yet) it looks as if her air game may be better than his as well. I’m also digging her voice actress.
In an appropriate surprise, NetherRealm also showed us a new skin for the Joker. We’re getting the outfit he wore when he shot Barbara Gordon in 1988’s Batman: The Killing Joke. In the comic, the Joker shoots Barbara in front of her father, paralyzing her and leaving her wheelchair-bound. Being unable to be the acrobatic, butt-kicking hero she once was, Barbara Gordon became Oracle, a computer hacker and information broker working with various superheroes. In 2011 with DC’s relaunch, Barbara Gordon was given her mobility back and was, once again, Batgirl.
Batgirl will be available for 400 Microsoft Points, or for $4.99 on the PlayStation Network.
