In a week of very few new releases, and certainly no big-budget multi-platform AAA titles to compete, Dead Island: Riptide has managed to remain at number one in the UK charts. The game made it to number one last week with fewer than half of the sales Dead Island managed in its first week, and its sales figures have fallen by 32% this week, but with no real competitors it has held its place despite reviews suggesting that it's a mediocre game.
It's obvious that this is a quiet time for games. Nearly half of the top ten of the UK charts is occupied by games that came out weeks or months ago: Tomb Raider at number three with only a 3% drop in sales, FIFA 13 back up at number four (three places higher than last week), Call of Duty: Black Ops II back in the top ten at number six thanks to a 34% increase in sales (perhaps due to the announcement of Ghosts, Luigi's Mansion 2 staying strong for a single-platform game at number nine.
In fact, only one new release even made it into the top 40, and that's Soul Sacrifice, which only made it to number 26. While we pointed this game out as one of the top ten Vita games to watch out for in 2013, with Vita sales as they are it was never going to make it into the top ten.
Did you buy anything new this week? What games have you got your eye on for when this quiet period is over?
