As of right now, Rare’s Sea of Thieves is pretty forgiving when it comes to player’s deaths (besides potentially losing some of your scoured loot). It seems like that’s all about to change though, as Rare intends on implementing a penalty for those who bite the dust. The context of the death tax is that the Captain of the Ferry of the Damned will charge a “small gold fee” to bring you back.
That being said, there are certain variables that will affect just how much you’ll have to cough up to revive. It will all depend on how ‘avoidable’ the death was.
- Death Cost – This new feature has the Captain of the Ferry of the Damned deduct a small gold fee when you die. Rates are dependant on the cause of death, so the more avoidable the death, the less patience the Captain will have when we enable this feature!
Don’t worry if you die at the sword of another player, PvP deaths don’t incur the death tax.
‘Please note, we never intended to charge players for PvP related deaths, as we understand the negative impact this would have on player experience.’
Sea of Thieves is out now for PC and Xbox One.
