The chatter surrounding the OUYA, the first of the Android driven alternatives to traditional gaming consoles has never been higher, now that the first round of hardware has been handed out to developers and those who put their money down first, via Kickstarter.
Though on the same note, the bloom is off the rose, thanks to reports that it's not quite what everyone had hoped it would be. Chief among the complaints is how the interface is rather lackluster, plus it's not so easy to get the thing to play the games that many are hoping to actually play (i.e. old console games, emulated) as one would like.
Much of this can be fixed, and hopefully will, though overall, it doesn't look like OUYA will turn the gaming world upside down as some had hoped. Still, there are other contenders out there. Remember the Game Stick?
Many might have forgotten about that other Android driven gaming solution, but it's still on the way, and its makers have whipped together the following video:
It certainly still looks to be an impressive looking kit, that's for sure. But one can't help but reminded of another issue with the OUYA, one that perhaps supersedes all the others mentioned, and that's the rather meager offerings in its store.
Unfortunately, the Game Stick's store hardly looks all that enticing. And given how that chief complaint is hardly a secret, you'd think that the makers of the Game Stick may have tried to secure at least a few sexy looking games to highlight in their promo vid.
Oh well. There's still a little time left, though considering its release in June 2013, right alongside the OUYA, and how we actually know less of its launch plans than the primary competition (at least we know that the OUYA will be available at all the choice retail locations), there's actually not that much time to get into battle ready shape.
