Call of Duty has become a phenomenon. There are very few game franchises that have left such a huge mark on the industry through sheer playability. The games innovated greatly upon the first-person shooter archetype, and while they haven't had the same genre-shaping impact as before, they remain no less a monolith upon the gaming realm.
Apparently, the series will be making a return trip very soon. IGN reports that the next Call of Duty game may be revealed on May 1st of this year. There has been much speculation regarding the franchise ever since Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 hit the scene late last year as to when the next title would be making its name known. Rumors indicate that the game will be titled "Call of Duty: Ghosts," but this is simply speculation.
We've brought you a picture below, courtesy of IGN, that reinforces reports of the May 1st reveal. These displays have been shipped out to Gamestop retailers, asking the staff of each outlet to not show them until May 1st. What is interesting though, is that there is a notation pertinent to a "4/8 poster." While this obviously means April 8, we aren't sure if this is relevant to Call of Duty. This could simply mean that posters or displays for a different franchise or series are to be taken down when these go up.
While we probably won't hear anything from Activision before the reveal, it's safe to say that this is indeed Call of Duty: Ghosts. The only thing left to do now is wait, and considering May 1st is only a couple of days from now, it won't be too long a wait.
