New Yoshi’s Island Game Coming to 3DS

April 17, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

It’s been a long time coming.

As revealed in today's Nintendo Direct, we're finally getting a new Yoshi's Island game, this one for the 3DS. The new game will be the third instalment in the Yoshi's Island series, the first of which was released on the SNES back in 1995. Since the second game came out in 2002 for Game Boy Advance, it's been a long time coming.

Naturally, this new version will feature the same cutesy gameplay as in the others, with the player controlling Yoshi as he carries Baby Mario around on his back. And the same Yoshi moves will be there, like his flutter jump and ground pound. But the improved graphics the 3DS can provide mean the game will appeal to new players who haven't tried the older ones. Nintendo also promises the game will use the unique features the 3DS has to offer, though we'll have to wait for more information to find out exactly what that means.

Have you been waiting for a new Yoshi's Island? Does this one look like it's up to your expectations? Check out a new piece of art from the upcoming game below.
