Sony’s most popular racing series has had a difficult life on the PlayStation 3. It took about four years longer than most fans expected for the simulation game to make its way to current hardware, but if a new online listing is to be believed, Gran Turismo 6 may be one of the last major titles to release on this generation of consoles.
The U.S. electronics store Newegg.com has added this sixth racing game to its website, with a planned release date of Nov. 28 and a price of $59.99. The PlayStation 4 is expected to make its global debut this holiday, so this date indicates that one of the company’s most well-regarded franchises will be returning to what will be, at that time, old hardware. It’s possible that the game, which is yet to be confirmed by any sources close to development, will launch on both the PS3 and PS4, but only one listing has been seen at this time.
Not long after being spotted by a few interested buyers, Newegg changed the listing to "Out of Stock" and the November release date was been removed.
This isn’t the only Gran Turismo 6 news we’ve seen up to this point. Just last year, Sony Associate Brand Manager Brian Dunn's LinkedIn profile listed "Gran Turismo 6" as one of the titles he was currently "managing." More evidence appeared when Michael Denny, vice-president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's Worldwide Studios, casually mentioned in an interview that the game would see a PlayStation 3 release.
For now, it looks like we’ll have to wait until E3 to hear anything more substantive.
