SuperBot Entertainment, the talented development studio responsible for last year’s PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, may have been forced to shrink down quite a bit, but that doesn’t mean the team is out of action. With all Sony ties cut off and no further DLC responsibilities for Battle Royale, the team is now working on a new IP on a much smaller scale.
It was earlier this year that Sony Computer Entertainment America announced that SuperBot Entertainment would be forced to make a major cut to its workforce, giving SCEA the responsibility of creating further All-Stars DLC. An official statement was made by the major publisher soon after the news broke.
"SCEA can confirm that SuperBot Entertainment did make a reduction in their workforce today," the statement read. "The studio and SCEA remain committed to supporting PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale post launch, including developing the title's forthcoming DLC releases in the coming months.”
Even with the drastic changes, Edge is now reporting that the studio, based in Culver City, California, will continue operations. David Yang, the team’s director of operations, stated that a new game is in active production.
“We have substantially shrunk down our operations, but are still going strong while we work on a new IP,” he told Edge.
For a period of time, Sony’s take on the Super Smash Bros. formula was codenamed “Title Fight.” The highly anticipated title would eventually take on the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale name and feature recognizable characters like God of War’s Kratos, Nathan Drake from the Uncharted franchise, and Nariko from Ninja Theory’s Heavenly Sword.
