Considering the trailer we saw last year – it was clear that Anthem’s action would take place almost entirely in Third Person. Apart from the first person marketplace we see during the ‘loadout’ phase of the game it seemed obvious that the first person mode was more of a cinematic addition than a mechanic.
Now it seems that there might actually be a first-person shooting segment to the game.
According to a new job ad, BioWare’s Austin studio is looking to hire a principal gameplay designer specifically for Anthem, and one of the requirements for the applicant seems to be experienced with first-person shooters. What’s more, the job ads requires the applicant to “have exceptional hands-on experience with game mechanics in 1st or 3rd person shooters space”.
Bioware’s Anthem is set to use the same engine that Star Wars Battlefront II uses, Battlefront II makes use of both first person camera view and third person – so I guess maybe it would make sense that the team introduce a first-person shooting mechanic to the title.
That being said, the Job listing is rather cryptic – the individual who has experience with first-person shooters could just be there to up the cinematic value rather than add an actual FPS shooting mechanic. That and first-person wouldn’t really make sense that given one of the most crucial elements to the action segment of the game is mobility – which, In my opinion, would be significantly difficult in FPS mode.
Anthem will release 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
