Speaking to Edge Grasshopper Manufacture boss Suda51 has said the studio's next game will be released next year and come with a "unique" online twist.
The game, which doesn't even have a working title at this stage, has the tagline "What the hell are you looking at?" It has been in development since November 2012 and is due to be released at some point in 2014, possibly for next-gen consoles.
The title is a brand new IP and No More Heroes artist Yuzuki Kazaki will be handing the game's visuals.
Suda told Edge the game is "of course an action game and it'll be on console platforms. We're considering various console platforms right now."
Asked whether it was being developed for current or next-gen consoles he said "We're considering both. Naturally we are interested in developing games for the next-gen platforms. We are investigating the specs and all that right now.
"This is going to be an action game obviously but the gameplay style is going to differ very much – it'll be unique. This is the title GungHo Japan and Grasshopper Manufacture is working on together collaberatively so there will be an online feature, because that's their forte and what they specialise in. On the simplist level it will be social, but the word social is used and misrepresented a lot these days. GungHo has over ten yearsof experience in providing onling gaming services so that is their strength."
Grasshopper Manufacture was recently acquired by GungHo. The studio's Killer is Dead is set to be released in Europe and the US sometime over the summer.
