Microsoft’s console, the Xbox One has been doing considerably poorly over in Japan, total sales of the entire family of systems not even having crossed the threshold of half a million in the years since its launch. But then again – Microsoft’s consoles have never done well in Japan.
We now have news that there will be a considerably large price drop for the Xbox One 1TB console model. The price has dropped from 34,980 yen to 29,980 yen for the Forza Horizon 3 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection SKUs. The Minecraft SKU has dropped from 39,980 yen to 34,980 yen as well. This means that the Halo and Forza models are actually cheaper than the PS4. Though I doubt that will be any competitor to Sony or Nintendo.
In other Microsoft news, the company has recently purchased Cloud gaming company, PlayFab.
As current generation consoles near the end of their life-span, certain entities have been acquiring cloud engine companies in order to be at the forefront of technology. Last week we announced that Epic Games have purchased Cloudgine, now we have news that Microsoft has acquired PlayFab. Microsoft corporate vice president of gaming Kareem Choudhry has explained the move as being beneficial to Microsoft’s Azure-powered cloud gaming efforts.
