Tabletop game company Shinobi 7 has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog will be headlining a new board game inspired by Sega’s speed-based video game franchise.
Sonic the Hedgehog: Battle Racers is switching gears from hunting down chaos emeralds to “fun-filled” strategy in a tabletop experience designed for two to five players. It will include five full colour miniature figurines of popular Sonic characters:
- Sonic
- Knuckles
- Tails
- Amy
- The notorious Dr. Eggman
Sorry, no Big, Shadow or Rouge. Yet. Each painstakingly detailed figurine measures 40mm, and is accompanied by a number of shiny cards and tokens that come with the main game — which is structured like a race. Essentially, players must choose a racer and fight opponents along a randomised, 0bstacle-lined route all the way to the finish. Each race is different, challenging you to employ abilities at the right time, control speed levels, and activate special powers for some epic ring collecting.
Hitting kickstarter in early February, Sonic the Hedgehog: Battle Racers promises some backer-exlcusive reward tiers plus Limited-Edition items. A retail version is expected to release in the second half of 2018.
