As well as the proper reveal of the new playable character, Gearbox had a little more Borderlands 2 news to share at PAX East, though the panel neglected to make it clear exactly what the news entailed. Instead, the studio showed a trailer that features a few familiar characters but no mention of what the trailer is for. IGN has a recording of the moment.
“This is probably going to leave you more confused,” one of the members of the team says, before emphasising that whatever it is they're showing is in early stages.
When Tiny Tina's voice starts to play, the audience cheers. So despite allegations that she is an “actively racist” character, she must be pretty popular with the fans. She dramatically describes a situation in which the world is about to “go boom boom”, but then shouts, “Roll for initiative!” at which point it's obvious that she's just playing a game. She calls the Dungeons and Dragons-style game Bunkers and Badasses, and it appears to confuse both Brick and Mordecai.
“What's going on?” Mordecai slurs, with a slice of pizza and a bottle of booze in front of him, “I wasn't paying attention.”
When it comes to choosing characters – between Mechromancer, Commando, and Siren – Brick chooses the Siren:
“My Siren's name is Brick,” he says, “And she is the prettiest.”
Anthony Burch (I think) jokes that, “The name of that DLC is 'Tiny Tina's Racism Adventure',” but if it is DLC it's not made clear what it'll actually entail. Would you play a game within a game? Or do you think it's just build-up for more bandit-shooting fun?
