Deep Silver and Techland have just released a stunning look at the gameplay of the sequel to 2011's Dead Island. After surviving the zombie outbreak on the Banoi archipelago, the four survivors end up in the hands of the military who manage to crash their ship into a new zombie infested island. Joining up with the new fifth playable character, John Morgan, the survivors must find a way to escape this new Hell in paradise before the military manage to cover up their mistake by hiding it under a nuclear bombs mushroom cloud.
Although it features a return to the primarily melee-based combat of the first game, Dead Island: Riptide does seem to include a few more guns than the original adventure. Although It remains unclear as to just how common these weapons will be, we do have word from the creative producer, Anthony Cardahi, that there will be an increased focus on gunplay and the more numerous firearms will no doubt come in handy against the new types of zombies crawling through the undergrowth and lurking under the waters' surface.
The new features, improved gameplay, and conspiracy led storyline all hint towards Dead Island: Riptide being one of the best zombie games of the year despite the recent controversy generated by the Zombie Bait Edition.
Dead Island: Riptide is set for release on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on 23 April 2013.
