Last year Nintendo launched their latest modern console, The Switch. Unfortunately, at the start of the launch, the console was looking a little rocky, with users reporting a host of issues such as crashes, bricking the case scratching the screen, and more. But this didn’t stop juggernaut Nintendo for absolutely smashing the launch sales wise.
According to BusinessWire, the console has become the fastest-selling home video game system in U.S. history. During the time span of now and it’s launch back in March 2017, the company sold more than 4.8 million units in the United States, according to Nintendo’s internal sales figures.
That makes the total of any home video game system in U.S. history, surpassing Nintendo’s own Wii system, which was the previous record holder with more than 4 million units sold during the same timeframe.
“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”
No doubt the speed of sales is thanks to Nintendo’s incredible line-up of exclusives such as The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Odyssey. Hopefully, Nintendo manages to keep up the pace during this year.
