A new webisode for the upcoming Wii U game LEGO City: Undercover both introduces a new character and provides further explanation as to the function of the GamePad. Though the previous three webisodes have taken time to demonstrate the unique personalities of the characters on which they're focused – the witty protagonist Chase McCain, his irritable boss Chief Dunby, and the oafish sidekick Frank Honey – this one doesn't seem to show much of Ellis Phillips other than that she is friendly and has a Southern accent.
Once we learn that Phillips is the one who gives McCain his Police communicator – a GamePad-shaped device that is supposed to replace his phone – the video is much more focused on what he can do with that. McCain contacts Phillips to tell her he needs some “Super Bricks” to rebuild something, and she tells him that he can hold up his communicator and use it to scan the environment to see if there are any about. Like with Zombi U, this game seems like it'll at least make the GamePad seem relevant and provide some interesting ways to use it.
Most of the time, however, it seems like the device will be used to display a map of LEGO City or to allow McCain to make video calls to people like Dunby and Phillips, though in the clip at the end of the video he seems to be using a regular phone to call the blonde who has appeared in other videos. Since Phillips appeared at the end of the previous video, maybe we'll get to learn more about this Natalia Smith in the next?
LEGO City: Undercover is due to launch for the Wii U on March 18.
