Current generation consoles, which are sometimes erroneously referred to as "next-gen" consoles have been on the market for half a decade. Despite lagging behind PCs in performance, their lifespans continue to receive extensions with newer iterations of the same consoles. While most gamers look forward to playing games that feature better graphics, some developers aren't so keen on moving on to the next generation(Xbox 720/PS4).
Speaking on the latest Irrational Games podcast, Irrational Games' Ken Levine is quoted as saying that he "[has] no desire as a developer and zero desire as a gamer to see the next generation come out where [he's] sitting right now."
THQ Core's Danny Bilson echoed his statements on Eurogamer with the following statement: "It still costs us a fortune to make games on this platform," he said. "If they're going to up the scale, up the art, up the content, I don't know how to make that and sell it to anybody for under $100 a game. Who wants to do that? It's bad for everybody."
Their views are perfectly understandable. No one, least of all developers, wants to have to develop games for a completely new platform and acquire new tools, especially when they're so close to mastering the platforms currently available on the market.
