Now that his work on The Cave is done, legendary game developer Ron Gilbert is moving on to other projects entirely unconnected from the Tim Schafer headed studio. On his blog he confirmed that he will be leaving Double Fine, but doesn’t share any sense of animosity over the move:
“I want to thank all the amazing people at Double Fine for all their hard work on The Cave. It was a true pleasure to work with every one of them over the past two years. So much fun. I will miss them all. And of course to Tim for creating the opportunity to come there and make The Cave.”
His blog will be regularly updating over the next few weeks with behind the scenes information related to production of the game, starting today with a 2d map of The Cave’s entire innards exported from Maia, colour coded and stripped down to the basics.
In a few days he’ll be releasing screenshots of his upcoming collaboration with Clayton Kauzlaric. The game is entitled “Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG” and will be released on iOS. The pair previously worked together on Deathspank and this game will be the result of a few more months of toil to complete.
He’ll also be attending PAX Australia and performing the Keynote Speech
We hope you have a nice time wherever you’re going, Ron. Good luck and make some cool stuff for us to play.
