Love the Battlefront series? Here’s a little crystal of good news wrapped around an inescapable carbonite prison of bad news. That’s your one overt needless reference and that’s all you’ll get.
According to Kotaku, who’ve done a great job pulling this scoop out of the aether, there’s a game called Star Wars: First Assault that’s been in development for a significant portion of time. It was planned to be released as a method of testing the waters for a revisit to the Star Wars Battlefront series. It’s a downloadable first person shooter that matches up 16 players as rebels and stormtroopers to fight on various Star Wars planets.
Their sources suggest that if this game did well it would directly lead to the release of a new Battlefront.
Unfortunately there’s some internal struggle that’s emerged as a result of the Disney take-over of the property. The game was initially set to be announced and enter an open beta in october of last year, but lucasfilm, knowing that the company was going to soon be bought out, froze all hiring and haven’t made much of a statement about when the game’ll see a release, if it even will. They’ve now got a game on their hands where the staff working on it aren’t even sure if it’ll
According to Kotaku’s source the studio is “bleeding talent” with members of the team jumping ship and trying to find work elsewhere.
This will hopefully soon be cleared up and the game will have a proper announcement. This is chilling news that puts into question the output of other games in the Star Wars Franchise.
